Import your Interactive Brokers holdings

Earnings Bird can build your watchlist from an Interactive Brokers export so you don't have to search for every ticker by hand. IBKR gives you the most control of any broker over what a report contains, and that control matters here: you want a positions-only file.

1. Create a positions-only Flex Query

  1. Log in to Client Portal on the web.
  2. Go to Performance & Reports → Flex Queries and create a new query.
  3. Include only the Open Positions section, and pick CSV as the format. Make sure the Symbol field is included.
  4. Run the query and download the file.

Why not a full activity statement?

An IBKR activity statement mixes several sections (trades, positions, cash, and more) in one file. Importing the trades section would add stocks you already sold, so Earnings Bird refuses a full statement and asks for a positions-only export instead of guessing which section you meant.

2. Upload it to Earnings Bird

  1. Open your dashboard and start adding a stock.
  2. Switch to Bulk add mode.
  3. Select Import your broker's CSV export and choose the file you downloaded.
  4. Your holdings fill the box. Review the list, remove any you don't want, then add them.

What Earnings Bird reads from the file

Your privacy matters here, so this is deliberately narrow. The CSV is read entirely in your browser. Only the resulting stock symbols (and company names) are sent to Earnings Bird to build your watchlist. Your position sizes, share counts, prices, and dollar amounts are never uploaded. They're used only on your own device, then discarded.

What gets skipped

  • Total and summary rows without a plain stock ticker.
  • Sections other than your open positions, if your query includes any.
  • Option positions. Earnings Bird tracks stock earnings, so option rows are ignored.

A stock is missing. What happened?

Check that the position appears in your Flex Query output and that its symbol is a plain US ticker. Non-US listings won't get earnings report dates: Earnings Bird covers US-listed stocks. You can always add anything by searching for its ticker on the dashboard.
